Easy Tomato Goat Cheese Crostini Recipe
Ava is the wife of one of my brother. She shared an incredible recipe with us last week. Her advice was to spread the Garlic Herb Boursin on bread instead of using goat cheese because she dislikes it. This was tested with Boursin as well as goat cheese, and I couldn’t decide between the two! When I invited friends to dinner, they couldn’t decide which version was the best.
It is easy to make, even though the recipe looks complex. The tomato is mixed with the seasonings and the olive oil. Toast your bread and then spread the goat cheese. What about the drizzle of balsamic overtop? This is making me salivate!
They are very easy to prepare but taste absolutely delicious. I always have guests who are amazed by them. Make the component parts in advance and put them together just before you serve. Doubling the recipe is also easy. There’s no easier way to make this.

Ingredients to make Tomato and Goat Cheese Crostini
In each bite, the taste of Tomato Goat Cheese Crostini is enhanced by its fresh ingredients. Shop for high-quality, fresh ingredients to get the best possible taste.
- Baguette, cut diagonally into 12″ slices. Perfectly thin and bite-sized, the slices toast to perfection.
- Tomato topping-quartered cherry toms, chopped basil with garlic clove minced and salt and Pepper. For chopping basil, see below our technique.
- To make spreading easier, purchase the cheese logs instead of the crumbles.
- Buy or make balsamic glazed.
Variations
Crostini have so many different ingredients that you can use to make them to your own taste. My favorites are listed below:
- Cherries are a great choice for tomatoes because they’re sweet, delicious, and extra-pretty. Romas or heirlooms can be used when available.
- It’s up to you which cheeses you use. Boursin Cheeses are delicious spreads on toasts. They come in varieties with garlic and herbs or chives. If you want to make your own herbed cheese spread, try making it as we have done on our Smoked Salmon Tea Sandwiches.
- Bread – try French Bread and sliced Sourdough Bread as an alternative to a Baguette. Make an open face sandwich with your favorite bread.
Basil Chop
To cut the basil without crushing, gently stack leaves on top of each other and then roll into a cylindrical shape. The tube of basil should be thinly sliced with a sharp, long knife. You don’t want to go over it again with the sharp knife, because this would crush the leaves.
Making Tomato Goats Cheese Crostini
Tomato Goat Cheese Crostini can be made quickly and easily, though it’s better to prepare them just before eating.
- Then, cut Baguette in 24 1/2″-thick slices.
- Crostini Bake – Lay the slices out on a baking tray and brush the oil with the extra virgin. Be sure to flip the pan over so that you brush the other side. Bake the slices of bread for 7-10mins, or until just golden on the edge. Let the toasts cool to room temperatures.
Pro Tip:
As soon as the crostini have been baked, the bread edges should be crisped and golden. However, the center of the bread still needs to give when pushed on top. They don’t need to be completely dried out – they aren’t meant to become croutons.
- The thinly-sliced baguette was toasted with olive oils on a large sheet pan.
- Toasted bread should be topped with the chopped tomato mixture. Stir the tomato quarters with the minced garlic and basil. Add the olive oil.
How to Serve
- In a clear dish, mix cherry tomatoes with fresh basil
- Place the goat’s cheese topping on the toasts, which have been cooled. Next, add the tomato sauce over it. Then drizzle balsamic over the top. Arrange in a dish and serve.

- For an instant appetizer, place the assembled crostini onto a tray.
- For guests who will be grazing on the Tomato Goat Cheese Crostini for a long time, it is best to let them assemble each toast themselves Charcuterie fashion to avoid the crostini getting soggy. Serve the toast with the tomato and goat cheese mixture on top of the platter.
- Use any extra tomato topping as a sauce for grilled chicken.
Make-Ahead
- Crostini: Toasted bread can be toasted up to 1 day in advance. Then, in a zip lock on the counter, (in a cool dry place), store them 3-4 days after cooling.
- You can make the tomato topping in advance, just leave out the sea salt. This will keep your tomatoes from becoming too juicy.
- Balsamic glass can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 weeks.
- For serving, combine the tomato salt (and strain it if the mixture is too watery), then assemble the dish and serve.
This easy Tomato Goat Cheese Crostini adds a touch of sophistication to your appetizers. It’s hard to resist this delicious bite-sized snack, which is made up of garlicky, creamy tomatoes, crusty, cheesy bread and a balsamic drizzle.
Tomato Goat Cheese Crostini
Ingredients
- 1 baguette sliced into 1/2” thick diagonal slices
- 4 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil divided
- 2 cups cherry tomatoes (12 Oz) quartered
- 2 Tbsp. basil chopped
- 1 garlic clove minced or squeezed with a garlic press
- 1/8 tsp fine sea salt
- 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 4 Oz goat cheese Boursin Cheese, or cream cheese
- 2 Tbsp. balsamic glaze to drizzle*, homemade or store-bought
Instructions
- Set the rack to the middle and preheat the oven at 400 F. Cut the baguette using a serrated, thin knife into slices of 1/2″ thickness, and cut them on the diagonal (or the bias).
- Arrange the toasts on an oven sheet with a rim. Apply extra virgin olive oils to both sides, approximately 3 Tbsp. per 1 baguette. Bake toast 7 to 10 min until golden edges. Cool them to room temperatures after removing from the oven.
- Making the tomato sauce while the toasts is in the oven. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together tomatoes, the garlic cloves, basil leaves, olive oil and salt.
- As soon as the toasts cool to room temp, you can spread goat cheese (or your preferred cheese) on top of them. Finally add your tomato topping. The crostini should be placed on a large serving plate and the glaze drizzled over top.
Notes
*How do you know when the toast is done? The crostini should look lightly browned and have a bit of give on the edges.
Make-Ahead Tips:
- Do not add the glaze until just before serving. Spread out the cheese, and top the toast with the tomato topping. Add the glaze right before serving.
- You can prepare the tomatoes (without salt), toasts, and balsamic sauce up to a day ahead. Keep them separate. Salt the tomato mixture before assembling the dish.
